fairly flat, easy walking trip for fall warblers. Two to three
hours looking and listening for these tiny bright colored birds.
Meet at 8:30a.m. at the gate to the trail at the back of the
park, close tot he maintenance building. We will eat lunch
together at a local restaurant, if the rest of your day is not
busy.

at Turkey Creek, Melbourne, FL for migrants and then on to Black
Point Drive and Playalinda Beach for whatever we can find. Meet
at 6:30 a.m. for car-pooling at Babson Park Nature Center.
November
24th Circle B Bar Ranch
This
ranch is in Lakeland. We will decide how far to walk when we
meet at the entrance to the ranch. This area has marshy areas
and beautiful old oaks and borders Lake Hancock. Truly a
spectacular place. Spoonbills, ducks, wading birds, warblers,
something for everyone. Meet at 6:45a.m. for car-pooling at
Babson Park Nature Center.
December
29th Christmas Bird Count
Come
out and help us with this all day adventures. Just let us know
in advance that you will be their so we can put you in a group.
The groups will each have their own leader and their own circle
of area to bird. We will count birds within a 10 mile area of
Lake Wales. In the evening the group leaders will meet at Babson
Park Nature Center to complete all the bird sighted.
January
5th Blue Spring State Park
How
about Manatees? Great viewing of manatees (sea cows) close up,
but in the wild. Beautiful walk along the river viewing these fantastic
animals. The walk ends at a natural spring. Bring our binoculars
also. There is a small admission price. A boat ride is available
for a cruise along the St. John's River (for a small charge.)
Meet at 8:00 a.m. for
car-pooling at Babson Park Nature Center.
February
2nd Merritt Island
Our
second trip of the year to this area. Black Point Drive is an
excellent birding area in winter. We will make stops at several
other places before ending at Playalinda Beach. We should see a
great number of birds! Meet
at 7:00 a.m. for car-pooling at Babson Park Nature Center.
March
15th Corkscrew Swamp
This
will be our longest trip of the year. We would recommend staying
overnight at Bonita Springs. We will car-pool from the hotel.
This is a 2 1/2 mile boardwalk. A must-see place for
bird-watchers! The National Audubon Society owns and manages
this refuge.
April
19th Fort DeSoto
Spring
migration will be in full swing for this trip. We can't however,
guarantee a "fall-out" of warblers, but if it happens
it is fantastic birding. Last year we missed the fall-out and
still saw 70+ species for the day! Some of you might want to
camp here before this trip. Meet
at 6:30 a.m. for car-pooling at Babson Park Nature Center.
May
31st Three Lakes Wildlife Management
Our
final trip of the year, but an opportunity to see Red-cockaded
Woodpeckers and Bachman's Sparrow. Join us for a great trip
without much walking. Meet
at 7:30 a.m. for car-pooling at Babson Park Nature Center.
